FCPL offers full schedule for summer

Summer is an eventful time at the Forrest City Public Library, and this summer will be no exception.

Members of the FCPL Board received an update this week from director Arlisa Price regarding plans for the summer.

“Our Summer Reading Program this year is called ‘Dream Big Read!,’ and the sign-up week will be Monday, June 11, though Friday, June 15,” said Price. “In the past, we’ve had just one program per week, but we will have events each Tuesday and Wednesday during the program, except for Wednesday, July 4.”

A schedule provided by Price shows that most programs will be held at the library and all will start at 1 p.m. The first program will be on Tuesday, June 19, and will be presented by Village Creek State Park. Other highlights include Groove Club at the Forrest City Civic Center on Wednesday, July 11; storyteller Dan Keding on Tuesday, July 17; a Museum of Discovery program on Tuesday, July 24, and the Wild Goose Puppet Show on Wednesday, July 25. The program will conclude on Tuesday, July 31, with a Space Walk at the Civic Center.

Another summer program for young adults will be held on Wednesday, June 6, at 10 a.m., at the library. According to Price, the program will involve the Connect Arkansas mobile lab. “It is called the ‘Entrepreneurial and Ecommerce Learning Program,’” stated Price. “It is for children in grades seven through 12. They will bring their mobile lab and the children will learn how to build a website using an iPad.”

Information provided by Price shows that space is limited and those interested need to contact the FCPL at 633-5646 for registration information.

Price also said the facility will begin operating on its summer hours on Saturday, June 2, and continue on that schedule through Sept. 3. The hours will be Mondays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., and closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
