Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church will once again be the host site for the annual Blessing of the Pets.
This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday afternoon and will offer a drive-by service for people who do not want to get their pets out of their vehicles.
Dr. Larry Mitchell, pastor at GMPC, said all types of pets will be welcome at the service, which will begin at 2 p.m., on the church’s parking lot on North Izard Street.
“One reason for the drive-by blessing is we had several requests for larger animals whose owners didn’t feel comfortable bringing them out into the public,” said Mitchell. The drive-by blessing will be conducted in the alley near the kitchen entrance at the church. It will be preceded by a short program in the parking lot.
“You may stop and have your pet or pets blessed right in the car, using the traditional 4th Century blessing attributed to St. Francis of Assisi,” said Mitchell. “All pets will be included, even pickup trucks full.”
