Mary Alice Brown Washington, age 63, departed her earthly life on Nov. 29, 2016. Known to her friends as "Big Mary," she was born on Feb. 10, 1953 in Maplesville, Ala. She was the first of 11 children born to Martha Brown Howard and Edward Sullivan.
Mary attended school in Hughes. After high school, she furthered her education by attending the Job Corps in Tulsa, Okla. She returned to Arkansas and worked at the Holiday Inn for several years. She confessed Christ, and was a member of the Shady Grove M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother; two brothers, Terry and Michael Brown; and one niece, Veronica "Renae" Jenkins.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories her children, Aretha (Michael) Jones and Shawanda Brown, both of Forrest City, Daniel Brown and Christie Kidd (Michael Bowen), both of Jonesboro; a very special friend, Keith Eaborn; three brothers, Jimmy (Barbara) Brown of Helena, Johnny Howard of Austin, Texas, and William (Mae) Howard of Memphis, Tenn.; five sisters, Gladys Jenkins, Annie (Aeric) Cole and Laverne Howard, all of Forrest City, Bobbie Jones of Mansfield, Texas, and Josephine Ivy of Milwaukee, Wis.; a very special aunt, Unity White; ten grandchildren, Dominique Dillard, Ki'Aira Dillard, Daniel Brown Jr., Chasity Kidd, Patrick Kidd Jr., Gerry Brown, Se'Aira Watson, Steve Clark, Jade Brown and Camerone Brown; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Ms. Washington will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Kincaid Funeral Services, 2615 S. Washington Street, Forrest City.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at noon, at the Shady Grove M.B. Church with Pastor Turnipseed delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Kincaid Funeral Services, Inc.
