Mr. Burl H. Downey, age 89, of Cabot, formerly of Forrest City, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2106, at the Cabot Health and Rehab in Cabot. He had been in poor health for the past two months.
Mr. Downey was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Caldwell, and was the son of Albert A. Downey and Bertha Brents Downey. He lived in St. Francis County most of his life, was an automotive instructor for Crowley's Ridge Vo-Tech, was a Veteran of World War II, was a Mason and a member of the Light House Ministries Church.
Mr. Downey married Louella Bowman in 1950, and she preceded him in death in 2005. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Downey.
He is survived by two sons, Everett Downey of Manchester, N.H., and David Downey of Cabot; one brother, James Downey of Forrest City; three sisters, Gladys Hopkins of Kansas City, Kan., and Geneva Haycraft and Lillian Garner, both of Forrest City; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Downey will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home.
Services for Mr. Downey will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, with burial in Forrest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
