A special ceremony was held Thursday prior to the start of the Forrest City Mustang basketball game at the Rumble on the Ridge tournament, officially renaming the Mustang Arena floor Bill Baxter Court at Mustang Arena. Baxter, the founder of the Rumble on the Ridge tournament as well as the driving force behind getting Mustang Arena built following the March 1998 fire that destroyed Sam Smith Gym, passed away in May after a lengthy battle aganst cancer. The ceremony speakers included Forrest City Athletic Director Dr. Rodney Echols, Forrest City Mayor Larry Bryant, Forrest City Mustang basketball coach Dwight Lofton and school board member Larry Jayroe, as well as Bill Baxter family members. From left, the family members are Baxter’s brother, Charley Baxter, his wife Carole, granddaughter Madison Whitehead, son-in-law Christopher Whitehead, granddaughter Savannah Whitehead, daughter Becca Whitehead, Baxter’s widow, Holly, grandsons Cooper and Ross Baxter, and son, Casey Baxter and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Baxter.
