The St. Francis County Historical Society has a number of projects in the works as it approaches its one-year anniversary. The most current project is a Civil War maker that will be placed at the First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas branch in Colt. The marker commemorates a skirmish which took place on May 11, 1863, at Taylor’s Creek and later moved south toward Mount Vernon. The marker is finished and will be dedicated during a ceremony on Aug. 23. Submitted photo.
