Legislator knows best: Education edition

It should not come as a surprise, but Arkansas’ public education system isn’t exactly ranked among the best in the country. In fact, the state’s overall ranking dropped again this year, from 41st in the nation to 43rd, according to Education Week’s annual Quality Counts report.

Civic Center Commission considers distributing surveys

Members of the Forrest City Civic Center Commission on Tuesday discussed the possibility of distributing satisfaction surveys to patrons of the civic center. The commission also reviewed some of the improvements made at the facility during their monthly meeting.

PWSB hires Fort Smith firm to design school

The Palestine-Wheatley School District is another step closer to having a new high school after members of the district’s school board agreed on Monday to hire a Fort Smith-based architecture firm to begin design of the new building. The school board also entered into a contract to officially purchase the land where the new school will stand.

Highway Commission approves bid for roadway improvement

The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved a bid for improvements to a roadway in Marianna, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials. The project, an overlay of approximately 3.5 miles of roadway, is expected to begin in two to four weeks.
