Memorial Day service

Flags honoring veterans

On Saturday, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2869 and American Legion Post 4, with the help of volunteers, placed American Flags at the graves of veterans in local cemeteries. Flags are placed at the graves each year on Memorial Day weekend. Susan Berry places a flag on the grave of Carl J. Beasley. Beasley was a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Moving day

The shed on the Vandiver property, located at the corner of Hill and Forrest streets, was loaded and moved to a new location on Friday. Help for tornado victims

Everything from food to clothing for victims of the Oklahoma tornado was being collected on Saturday at Mustang Arena by a group of local Facebook friends. Representatives from the Forrest City Police Department, the department’s Explorer Youth Program and the St. Francis County Sheriff’s Department joined volunteers. Roofing work

Vacant structure fire

Forrest City firefighters were called to 212 Bertha Owens Circle Thursday night after a vacant home, owned by Dozier Bolden, caught fire. The fire report reveals there were multiple ignition points found around the structure. The fire is under investigation. Firefighters spent more than two hours extinguishing the blaze. Little graduates

Kindergarten graduation for students in the Forrest City School District was held this morning in the Fine Arts Center at East Arkansas Community College. Thirteen classes of kindergarten students took part in the ceremony, becoming next school year’s first graders. Photo by David Nichol.

Taking it down
