Annual Palestine Easter Egg hunt set for Saturday at football field

The annual Palestine Easter Egg Hunt is set for Saturday, March 21, beginning at 11 a.m., at the high school football field. According to Palestine Advertising and Promotion Commissioner Michelle Garner, the event will continue until everyone has left the stadium. "We are excited to get started on Saturday," said Garner. "It will start at 11 a.m., and go until everybody has left. We never put an end time on this event because we just never know how long it will take. Sometimes it goes really quickly, but when you have little ones out picking up eggs, you never know, so we don't put an end time on this." Garner said those returning to this year’s event can expect to see Bro. Justin Murphy, of Beck Spur Baptist Church, handing out snacks during the event. "I am assuming that Brother Justin Murphy with Beck Spur Baptist Church will be out there," said Garner. "He is always a big part of the events we put together and he has always done that. We used to serve hot dogs, but people just weren't eating them at that time of day, so we quit serving those. Last year, he did popcorn and cotton candy, but I don't know what his plans are. He said he would be there doing the same old things so we are happy about that." According to Garner, the event will begin with little kids and work its way up to the older children being allowed to get onto the field to collect eggs. "All of the eggs have something in them," said Garner. "So every child will have something in their eggs. This event is for kids of all ages. We start with the little ones so that they can get out on the field and get started first. Then we add ages as we go so they are not just trampling on the little kids." Garner said that as of now, the weather is supposed to be clear on Saturday, however, if that changes, the event will be postponed to Saturday, March 28. “Everything we offer is free of charge including photos with the Easter Bunny," said Garner. "There won't be a specified place set up for those pictures. People will just be able to go up to the Easter Bunny and get photos taken. We are looking forward to the event once again this year and hope to see everyone out enjoying it with us. As of right now, the weather is supposed to be good on Saturday, but if something out of the blue comes up and all of a sudden we are supposed to get storms, we left a weekend open between this event and Easter. That way, we could make it up on the 28th, but as of right now, the weather is supposed to be good on Saturday.”
