The Delta Cultural Center will
host an annual Martin Luther
King Jr. Day program, Monday,
Jan. 20.
This year’s title is “The Power
of Peace: A Tribute to Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr.” The event will
be held at Beth El Heritage
Hall, located at 406 Perry Street
in Helena, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The free event will feature
community leaders reciting
from selected Dr. King
speeches, a Helena-West
Helena Central High School
choir performance, and a
reading by the winner of the
school poetry contest.
Area schools are
participating in the poetry
contest, which is themed “How
to Achieve World Peace.”
Independent judges will choose
the winning entry, which will be
read during the program, and
featured on an edition of the King
Biscuit Time radio show.
The special event is free and
open to the public.
Refreshments will be served.
The Delta Cultural Center is
an agency of Arkansas Heritage.
The center’s museum and
educational complex tells the
story of a land and its people,
capturing what makes the
Arkansas Delta region unique. It
is the mission of the Delta
Cultural Center to preserve,
interpret and present the
cultural heritage of this
legendary 27-county area.
Arkansas Heritage is a division
of the Arkansas Department of
Parks, Heritage, and Tourism.
The Delta Cultural Center is
open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday
through Saturday.
