FC A&P votes to fund projects at Sports Complex

The Forrest City Advertising and Promotion Commission approved two requests for funding during a phone poll held this week at the Chamber of Commerce office Tuesday morning. One request was from the City of Forrest City for multiple projects in the amount of $71,000 and the other was from Forrest City Little Theatre for their summer production of "Godspell.” Mayor Larry Bryant requested $159,700 to be spread over five projects. According to the request, Bryant asked for $35,000 for restrooms at the Forrest City Sports Complex, $70,000 to seal the parking lot at the Complex, the purchase of eight picnic tables for $2,000, nine metal benches for $2,700 and $50,000 to fund repairs to Southside Swimming Pool. "This is the second request in over two years," Bryant wrote. "The first request was for $250,000 of which only $161,099.24 has been spent and the current A&P balance is $88,900.76. The city had an unexpected expense of $140,000 for a new multi-purpose center roof and other unexpected repairs to the aquatic center. "We believe the monies appropriated will help promote Forrest City as a destination spot," continued Bryant. "Monies spent in Forrest City for Civic Center and park projects are funds spent as the A&P ordinance provides. Thanks for your appropriations to better our Forrest City Civic Center and parks." After subtracting the current balance of $88,900.76 held by the city, commissioners unanimously approved the appropriation of an additional $71,000 to meet the requested amount. Commissioners also unanimously approved the request from FCLT for $5,000. According to the request, submitted by Lynn Grommet, president of FCLT, the group has been actively participating in community events and bringing productions to the community stage since the early 1940s. "The Forrest City Little Theatre was founded in the early 1940s to bring quality cultural performances to the East Arkansas area at affordable ticket prices," wrote Grommet. "We have participated in the Forrest City Christmas parades and presented several projects for the enjoyment of our community. In July of 2022, we participated in the Jazz Festival, in August of 2023 we presented "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” and in July of 2024, we presented "Assisted Living - the Musical.”
