Food distribution set for Wednesday

The Delta Dream Food Pantry is scheduled to hold its monthly food distribution next week. The distribution is set for
Wednesday, Feb. 19, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and continuing until 1 p.m., or until the food supply is depleted. Pantry Director Doris Wallace said the Pantry typically distributes 192 boxes monthly to Lee County residents.
The food for each month’s distribution arrives on Tuesday after which volunteers prepare boxes to give away. Wallace said volunteers
are always needed on distribution days and encourages anyone who wants to help to come to the Pantry, located on Highway 1 North of Marianna.
“We don’t make our boxes up when the food comes in.
We have a mobile distribution and put everything outside so we can prepare the boxes as the recipients come through the line, and we usually don’t have a problem doing it that way,” said Wallace. Anything that is not distributed at the monthly event is kept in the Pantry’s storage facilities so that it will be available to fill needs as they arise in the community.
Wallace said the Pantry works with the police department, the school district and government agencies such as DHS to ensure that families through the Pantry. “We may not always have a full box to give in an emergency situation, but we can find enough for them to have
a meal,” said Wallace. Wallace said the Pantry also receives support through donations from private individuals and organizations in
addition to the food it receives monthly from the Food Bank.
“We always need volunteers. If someone wants to volunteer to help us we can find something for them to do,” added Wallace.
