Frost sentenced to ADC for block party shooting

One of four people charged in a deadly block party shooting that occurred last spring in downtown Wynne has been sentenced to the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Tommie Frost, 19, of Marion, pleaded guilty this week to second-degree murder for the death of Varian Campbell, 27. The shooting occurred about 10 p.m., on April 13, near the intersection of Williams Avenue and Martin Luther King Street. Nine others suffered gunshot wounds and two were injured by vehicles while trying to leave the area. Those victims were treated at hospitals throughout the area including Forrest City, Jonesboro and Memphis. Frost also originally faced nine counts of first-degree battery, possession of a firearm by a certain person and nine enhancement charges for engaging in violent criminal group activity, according to online court records. His trial was scheduled to be held this week in Cross County, but Frost reached a plea deal with prosecutors in which the first-degree murder charge was reduced to second-degree murder. All nine counts of first- degree battery were nolle prosequi, according to court files. After pleading guilty to the amended murder charge and to possession of a firearm by a certain person, Frost was sentenced to 20 years in the ADC on the murder charge and 10 years on the firearms possession charge, with the sentences to run concurrently. The other three facing charges in the shooting are awaiting trial. Each of those cases was continued this week until the March term of circuit court in Cross County. Those defendants include Carl Washington, 21, of Parkin, along with Cameron Crawford, 21, and Qua’varius Milon, 23, both of Wynne. They are also charged with first-degree murder and nine counts of first-degree battery. Court records show that those who suffered gunshot wounds during the shooting included: Tonnie Patterson, 31; Deverous Selvy, 21; Yolanda Whitfield, 49; Rosalyn Boyd, 30; Daniel Marterious, 23; Shaqwon Collins, 28; Calene Scott, 30, and Alonzo Holmes, 19. The two people who were trying to run away after the shooting began and were struck by vehicles were identified as Quentin Colbert, 34, and Kenya Nellon, 21. During the investigation, in which the Wynne Police Department sought assistance from Arkansas State Police, officers recovered more than 35 shells casings fired from various weapons.
