Poker Run participants travel miles along Ridge

The 22nd annual Ride the Ridge Poker Run, benefiting Special Olympics Arkansas and the St. Francis Area Developmental Center, is set for Saturday, May 9. Developmental Center Executive Director Julie Brown said this year’s ride will follow the same route as last year, which is the original Harrisburg route. Motorcyclists will travel north through Cherry Valley to Harrisburg, covering about 100 miles along Crowley’s Ridge. “Once again the Poker Run will feature 100 miles of rolling hills along our route on Crowley’s Ridge,” Brown said. “Riders will depart from the old Stage parking lot at 2342 N. Washington St. in Forrest City. Registration begins the morning of the event, with the first bikes leaving at 10 a.m. and the last bike leaving at noon.” Brown said riders will make stops along the way to collect cards before ending the ride at the Delta Regional Airport in Colt, where they will receive their final card after which winners will be determined. According to Brown, participants who rode in last year’s event should receive registration forms in the mail. “I have mailed registration forms to those who participated last year," Brown said. “So they should be getting those soon or they can contact me for a form.” While registration will be available on the day of the event, Brown encouraged riders to preregister to guarantee an event T-shirt in their size and a door prize ticket. Registration costs are $25 for bikes and $20 per rider. Admission is $15 for those who want to attend only the celebration at the airport, once the ride has been completed. Brown said the post-ride celebration will include food, live entertainment and a live auction. “This year, we will have barbecue and we will have the band the Jukebox Zeros returning to perform,” Brown said. “We will also have other refreshments." She said organizers are also adding several new attractions this year. “New this year, Scott Martin is bringing in a bounce house that the Masons will be running along with biker games,” Brown said. “We will also have a couple of vendors, one of which will have patches for sale.” For more information, contact Brown at julierilee@hotmail.com.
