SFC Fair Week begins Sunday with rehearsals, exhibit entries

The annual St. Francis County Fair will begin Monday at the Wiley T. Jones Fairgrounds in Forrest City. Fair officials announced Wednesday that the previously scheduled barrel racing event on Saturday has been canceled due to severe weather being in the weekend forecast. FC A&P Commission funds Rumble, Christmas parade Brodie Johnson Managing Editor The Forrest City Advertising and Promotion Commission on Tuesday held a phone poll to approve funding for the annual Rumble on the Ridge Basketball Tournament as well as the Forrest City Community Christmas Parade. Commissioner Louise Fields was unable to be reached during the phone poll. The funding request for the basketball tournament was made by the Rumble on the Ridge and Forrest City Booster Club organizations. The group requested $40,000 for the event that is set to feature eight boys teams and four girls teams. opens. Additional entries for the previously listed categories, along with truck crops and field crops, will be accepted from 2 to 7 p.m., Monday. "Unfortunately, due to the anticipated severe weather forecasted for this weekend, our barrel race has been cancelled," said event organizers. "The safety of our riders, horses and spectators is our top priority. We appreciate everyone's understanding and support." On Sunday, pageant rehearsals will begin at 2 p.m., for all contestants. Early entries for exhibits, including art, photography, canned foods, sewing, arts and crafts, household arts, knitting and crochet and apiary categories will be accepted from 2 to 5 p.m. Those who have registered for commercial and educational booths must have their displays in place by noon on Monday when the main exhibit hall On Tuesday night, the Forrest City Kiwanis Club will host a Family Bingo Night in the Kountry Kitchen, beginning at 6 p.m. The free admission event will feature prizes for winners. The Kountry Kitchen will open for lunch each day next week starting at 11 a.m., serving plate lunches. The Kountry Kitchen will remain open throughout the evenings with a variety of menu options. The carnival midway will open Wednesday and will remain open through Saturday. Armbands for unlimited rides are available for $25 in advance at the Forrest City Area Chamber of Commerce, St. Francis County Farm Bureau or Express Cleaners.
