Wynne Mayor rescinds council’s decision to oust DRAA Chairman

The Wynne City Council’s decision this week to appoint a new member to the Delta Regional Airport Authority Board has been rescinded. DRAA Chairman Shannon Hobbs, who has represented Wynne on the board since the airport was founded about 25 years ago, was to be replaced by Nathan Pribble after the council approved a recommendation by Mayor Jennifer Hobbs at its meeting Tuesday. However, on Thursday, Mayor Hobbs said that because Shannon Hobbs’ six-year term on the board had not yet been completed, an appointment was not necessary. “His term was not up. There had been some inconsistencies on past appointments, but his term is not up so Mr. Pribble’s appointment is null and void,” said Mayor Hobbs in a telephone interview, adding that Shannon Hobbs has another year remaining on his current term. The mayor explained the situation further in a press release she issued Thursday morning. “I recommended, and the city council subsequently approved, appointing Mr. Nathan Pribble to replace Mr. Shannon Hobbs on the Delta Regional Airport Authority (DRAA) Board,” Hobbs wrote. “Upon review of the terms and past appointments several inconsistencies were found, and a correction needs to be addressed. I have taken actions to correct this mistake, so going forward this will not occur again,” said Hobbs. “Mr. Hobbs [sic] be allowed to continue in the seat in accordance with the six-year terms for board members set by Ordinance 654. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. I appreciate both gentlemen being willing to serve the community through this appointment.” “I believe this decision has caught everyone on the airport board off guard with no prior communication from the mayor of Wynne regarding her decision,” said Shannon Hobbs. “I have not once spoken of resigning. The main question everyone would like to know is why this decision was made to begin with and what motivation is behind it. “I can assure you that my goal from the beginning of my tenure was to unify the Delta Regional Airport Board and to allow every member to use their qualities as individuals to promote and continue development of our airport for the benefit of the communities and all citizens,” he continued. “Our communities are blessed with a board that works diligently for our region. We all serve to keep the airport functioning effectively and to seek and promote grant funding which allows the continued construction of infrastructure. I sincerely appreciate the mistake being corrected, and I look forward to continuing my service to the St. Francis and Wynne communities to promote this regional airport.”
